Robotics

Robotics is a specialized unit operating within the Artificial Intelligence, Informatics and Innovation Center under the Near East University ecosystem. Established to drive research, development, and engineering excellence in autonomous systems, the unit focuses on the complete lifecycle of robotic technologies, from mechanical design and embedded hardware to artificial intelligence and real-time control.

Operating through a multidisciplinary and engineering-oriented approach, the unit combines electro-mechanical system design, sensor fusion, autonomous navigation, and multi-agent coordination. Its activities span robotic football systems, unmanned aerial vehicle autopilot platforms, precision automation for biomedical applications, and applied artificial intelligence for decision-making in dynamic environments. All systems are developed entirely in-house, supported by comprehensive simulation, prototyping, and testing capabilities.

The Robotics unit is internationally recognized through its flagship NEUIslanders robotic football team, which became RoboCup Small Size League World Champion in 2018. Its research contributions are regularly published in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, covering areas such as behaviour-tree-based control, fuzzy logic systems, omnidirectional kinematics, and Z-number-based decision algorithms. Through its continuous R&D efforts and engineering excellence, the unit contributes to the university’s broader vision for innovation, applied technology development, and interdisciplinary research.
